Tribal Ignorance

The human condition whereby the primal need for identity and trusted association, prove to be more important than objective, critical thinking; and the quest for goodness, righteousness, and truth. Often magnified by a parallel lust for control, capital, and power.
It’s tough to explain why politicians will put party before country; my only explanation is that it is an example of tribal ignorance.

Radical Ignorance

The original name of the Make America Great Again movement before they came up with something less self-deprecating.
Let’s come up with something a little more patriotic sounding, I’m afraid that Radical Ignorance just doesn’t cut it.

Fact-proof Ignorance Bubble

The hard shell that surrounds the head and brain of all Trump supporters.
The decline of education in America and the coinciding rise in more Americans afflicted with the Dunning-Krueger syndrome is strong evidence that many people live in a Fact-proof Ignorance Bubble, free of rational thought, logic and common sense.

Trying to discuss world events with Trump Supporters is useless since they live in a Fact-proof Ignorance Bubble.

Weaponised Ignorance

The creation of far-reaching, pervasive and destructive policy based upon unbelievably unreliable, unpredictable and/or otherwise ridiculously, unsubstantiated, merit-less untruth.
Current example of Weaponised Ignorance in a time when airtravel has NEVER been more safe: These new-fangled airplanes are just waaaay too complicated for pilots to fly. Too many buttons and switches to deal with. We need to bring back those old-school airplanes with them 'flappin' wings' and git rid of all these new ones with the com'puters...

self-perpetuating ignorance

A phrase used to describe the blind beliefs of any institution or state where someone is told to believe something without evidence or reason and where that ignorance is then passed on to others (because they believe the lies they have been told) and becomes self-perpetuating.
'Nationalism is a form of self-perpetuating ignorance where we are taught to hate the 'other' or outside group.'

'No you cannot convert me to your religion, I have no desire to be a part of your cult's self-perpetuating ignorance.'

Dramatic Ignorance

Dramatic Ignorance (n.)

Unlike in dramatic irony in which facts are not known by the characters but are known by the audience, in dramatic ignorance, authors must pretend that their characters are more ignorant than they normally would be to take into account the actual ignorance of the audience.
An example of dramatic ignorance can be found on CSI on which the following dialogue might be heard:

(Scene: Las Vegas hotel room. Sara Sidle sprays a liquid on a bed.)

Gil: What are you doing?
Sara: I’m spraying Luminol to find blood trace.

This dialogue is absurd for the characters because Gil, of course, would know what Luminol does. The dialogue is there for the benefit of the viewer, who may have actual—not dramatic—ignorance of basic forensics
