Typically someone who strives to 'fit in' to be as popular as possible, often not being their true self. Can also simply mean someone who is seen as being a stereotypical character in any kind of way.

Over the years Calvin, from Calvin and Hobbes, has had several adventures involving corrugated cardboard boxes, in which he adapts them for many different uses. His inventions include the Transmogrifier, a flying time machine, the Duplicator, and an "Atomic Cerebral Enhance-O-Tron."

Basically, cardboard boxes are the best things a kid could ever have in order to stimulate their imagination.

I think our young Timmy here would rather have some cardboard boxes for Christmas than anything else. They're SO much fun.

A housing complex or neighborhood comprised of cardboard boxes, usually situated on a piece of public property. Frequently referred to as a last-resort housing option for people who currently would not be considered vagrants (college students, recently unemployed)

Since my company downsized me, I am going to have to choose between moving in with my parents or moving into the cardboard carnival.
