firefighter paramedic slang for patients burned beyond recognition. Fourth and fifth degree burns, muscle and bone burning. Last stage before sixth degree burns, cremation (all tissue reduced to ash).

By the time we got there, the people trapped in the vehicle were crispy critters.

Crispy Critters

Hippies, specifically. Can be used generally to describe people so high on drugs that they're "baked crispy".
