Fleminian Strategy

A wartime application of the basic principle of "hit and run" using a superior navy to almost guarantee the survival of the "runner." It is an almost pirate-like tactic of quick, successive coastline assaults where the attacker never stays on land for a longer duration of time than what is necessary. An amphibious assault is made and the attacker retreats back into the sea before the enemy has a chance to make a decisive land assault on them, a situation the attacker is trying to avoid.
In 1577, Sir Francis Drake of England was sent on an expedition against Spain on the Pacific coastline of the Americas. The rapid, successive attacks made by Sir Drake on that coastline can be seen as an application of Fleminian Strategy.

Fogey/fogy /fougi/ sl. (early 18C+, orig. Scot) old-fashioned, stuck-in-the mud.
Person with old fashioned ideas which he is unwilling to change: Come to the disco and stop being such an old fogey!
You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
