1) To check out what's going on by driving or walking around, usually when you go out with
friends with no specific plans or destination in mind.
2) Conducting informal reconnaissance on a location or event to assess whether it is worth the time, effort and/or
money to get involved. Recon
may involved simply driving by, or by one member of your party scouting a location in advance.
