emotionally troubled 

Someone that gives off vibes that they have no self esteem or self confidence and usually were abused and neglected during their childhood. Then as adults they have a difficult time in their day to day life. Their spirit is usually broken and subservient. Someone that is emotionally troubled can easily be taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals.
I think Jane is emotionally troubled, she reminds me of a puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of people.

a person who has difficulty connecting to others; who has no deep emotions; who is also probably self-preoccupied and with no big vision about life
