A white van that contains seating for usually 16 or 18 people. Usually found in the Philippines as an altrnative for the jeepney. It is a point-to-point service that never loads passengers unless it's at its final destination. It is usually airconditioned.

UV Power Plants

A niche but brutal form of energy capture focused on the high-energy end of the light spectrum. These plants use specialized photovoltaic cells or thermal systems tuned to efficiently absorb ultraviolet light, which is more energetic than visible light. This is particularly useful in space (where UV isn't filtered by an atmosphere) or on planets with thin ozone layers. They represent a more specialized, high-efficiency form of solar power that ignores the visible light we see, instead harvesting the more powerful, invisible rays that give you sunburns.

*Example: "On Titan, the dim sunlight makes normal solar panels useless. But the high-altitude UV is still strong, so our entire outpost runs on UV power plants with collectors on the mountain peaks, soaking up the invisible rays that pierce the haze."

UV Igniter

A device that uses ultraviolet radiation to initiate reactions, typically by ionizing gases or breaking chemical bonds with high-energy photons. UV igniters are essential in applications where you can't have sparks—like in fuel-rich environments where a spark might cause an explosion you don't want (or do want, but not yet). They're also used in some advanced engine designs and in industrial processes requiring precise, sparkless ignition. The UV photons carry enough energy to strip electrons from atoms, creating ions that then initiate combustion. It's clean, it's precise, and it's completely useless for lighting your gas grill because you'd need to wear a hazmat suit to use it safely.

Example: "The industrial dryer handled volatile solvents, so standard spark ignition was out of the question. The UV igniter provided sparkless, reliable ignition day after day, year after year. The maintenance team forgot it existed, which is the highest compliment any safety device can receive. When it finally failed after a decade, they had to look up what it was called."
