Isolation Detention

A type of school detention that is much worse than regular detention. I have gotten this before, so let me explain what it's like. This only exists in certain schools btw.

Isolation Detention is basically like being locked in a small room with nothing but a chair or desk. The walls are completely white, but the floor would usually be tiled or carpet. You'd basically be locked in there until the principal says you can leave. It's dead silent, and you only hear the school board talking outside (depends on where the room is located) and yourself breathing. The room feels like solitary confinement, and the only way you could get this punishment is committing theft on school property or something similar.
I got isolation detention for stealing 3 computers and a girl's phone. You don't want to end up like me.

hatcher isolation

A common practice at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The process of studying in complete social isolation, with only your books and some (disallowed) food and drink, for hours on end, for midterms or other GPA-necessary assignments.

(Background: The Hatcher Graduate Library is actually an interconnected set of two buildings, Hatcher North and Hatcher South. It is possible to get lost in the stacks even with the guidelines on the floor, as many freshmen do. There are numerous small study rooms in the corridors, called study carrels, and are generally occupied (even when in the most obscure of areas) by undergraduate upperclassmen that have explored (and survived) the Hatcher stacks.)
Mike has been in hatcher isolation for the past week; I haven't seen him for days. That midterm must really be hard.

Social isolation

Social isolation is a state or near state of loss of social, mental, spiritual and physical contact with the world. It is a spectrum and can occur to varying degrees depending on the individual and society at the time.

It can lead to moodiness, irritability, general feelings of sadness, recurring depressive thoughts, and a distortion of the view of the self and the world.

Social isolation is not necessary or wanted in this world. We can all feel connected through; reaching out to a friend with a text or phone call, inviting friends over for dinner, calling a friend you haven’t talked to in a while, making amends with friends you had beef with but in the greater scope of things it was something that could be patched up, memes, giving friends hugs, petting a dog, cat sitting, watching tv together, having a picnic at a park, eating edibles together, going stargazing, making fun of nazis together, singing a song, taking a drive together, going to the grocery store with friends, running errands with a pet, having friend / family reunions, smiling at a stranger, asking “how are you” to the barista at the coffee shop.
These are all ideas towards defeating social isolation in our world.
