Semi-Formal 

A way of styling clothes, in which you are more formal than everyday clothes, but less formal than a formal event, such as black-tie events. Some popular places where you will find this are in this are school dances, work parties, and brunches.

Mary: “Hey, did you hear that Homecoming is semi-formal? What are you going to wear?”
Jenny: “I found this cute dress from Kohl’s that’s the perfect mix of formal and casual! I’m so excited for the dance!”

to describe the kind of 'unwritten uniform' worn by certain professions (i.e teachers) to work. This is what happens when 'smart casual' goes to work.

party formal 

Party formal is a dress code classification above casual and up to black tie. For men this can be sport coat, dress shirt and slacks to suit and tie and even black tie. Jeans of any kind do not fall under this category. For women this can be a cocktail dress to a suit and even a gown.

The dress code for guests invited to the party celebrating the host's important birthday was party formal.
