If any human being becomes too self-aware of their brain's functions, such as the reflex arc or the chemical reactions in their brain, their brain deterioates, scrambling every nerve ending in the body before shutting down. This is the worst pain known to man; the triple placebo pneumatic bypass.
Some say this is what the matrix does when it looks like one of its captors are going to break away.

This can also occur when a human being spots a glitch in the Matrix, e.g- George Bush Junior being re-elected.

Tebow Placebo 

When you have a quarterback who is really popular with fans and people think he is a winner, but in reality he is nothing special and should be the back-up. He is allowed to play so that the fans will shut up about how they know none of their players by name, and to make games a lot more lopsided so they get a better pick in the draft and can actually draft a good quarterback.

Extraphysical Placebo, also Extraphysical Placebo Effect, is an extraphysicalist and an extraphysical mechanics concept where the placebo effect is actually the influence of extraphysics and of the extraphysical mind and spirit over someone's physical body, such as the influence of the extraphysical level on someone's physical body. Extraphysical placebo is used to explain about how majority of the spiritual experiences are so similar to placebo effect and about how it's really hard to have a spiritual experience that could overcome the placebo effect as well. The term is also used for the development of extraphysical-based medicine and technology that could modify physical bodies and things only by extraphysics.
