Flip flops are a type of sandal that is characterized by a floppy sole that slaps against the heel of the foot when walking making a "flip flop" sound.
A common misconception is that a flip flop must be a thong sandal - (a sandal that has a strap that connects to the sole between the large and next toe.) However, any sandal capable of "flipping and flopping" qualifies as a flip flop.

shoes that look good on girls... who have a pedicure, nail polish, have feet that are not deformed, have feet that dont look dry and leathery, dont have skin flaking off around the toenails. looks terrible on guys because our feet, i must say, look horrible.
while im on the train, i see many females with flip flops. most of there feet make me want to gag :(

One of the most annoying and popular forms of summer footwear. Made popular by girly girls in hollister or abercrombie and fitch t-shirts, and preppy, image conscious guys with popped collars. Both are usually obnoxiously chewing gum as they walk in said footwear.
Some see the "slapping" sound these shoes make as "cute". It gives normal people headaches.
