Backpeddling 

Trying to take back something said or done, usally done by altering it or changing it, in an attempt to change a viewpoint or to save face. The term backpeddling refer to the motion someone does on a bike to use a brake, moving the legs in another direction, sometimes going nowhere.

1: You know I've always really liked you.
2: I have a boyfriend!
1: I didnt know you had a boyfriend. When I said I really like you I just meant you were cool and...
2: Why are you backpeddling?!

Backpedaling

Backpedaling is used when one is proven wrong in an arguement and don't want to get their ass whooped!

Jessica: Why are you spreading rumors about me?

Janice: I'm not spreading rumors about you!
Jessica: I seen it on your Facebook!
Janice: That's all a misunderstanding....
Jessica: Don't start backpedaling now that you've been caught!

Janice started backpedaling her story when Jessica threatened to beat her ass!

Bleackpedaling- (verb) When a white person, whether accidentaly or on purpose, makes a racist comment about a black person and then feverishly tries to retract his/her previous statement(s).

Jim: So then I said, 'Its because all black people look the same!'

Backpedalling

A technique commonly used in arguments whereupon someone returns to a previous point they had made and pretends what they had said after that point never happened. Used in an attempt to null arguments that have been proven wrong, to prevent humiliation or to prevent the disputer from identifying that they have made a stupid argument. Politicians frequently use this in order to prevent interviewers from getting to the root of the problematic things they say. Really fucking annoying.

"You mean to say that ALL black people are stupid?"

"Um, er, um...as I was saying, formal education in the private sector requires improvement."
"Bruh stop backpedalling dude."
