whenever I feel you drifting
searching for reasons to like yourself
I want to tell you not to worry
just lean into me
and we will navigate the storm together

we sit by the fireplace
your cold hands in mine
listening to the wood crackle
without needing to say anything
feeling that we have each other

the number of storms does not matter
we know they always come
and we always know they pass
we synchronize our breathing
letting time do its work

while the wind is strong
I want to be with you
to help you pull yourself back
so you can see where to return

I also promise to fail
I promise to lose focus, to be late
I promise there will be times
when I need to unplug from the world
I know it will happen
and none of it will lessen
all the care I have
and always want to have for you

I hope to have your hand close by
holding me the times I stumble
showing me you believe in us
that you understand

we don’t always manage to express

something so immense
without it getting tangled

We need to be permeable
to each other’s needs and desires
so the light can gather
and expand us into ecstasy

It is in those highs and lows
of closeness and distance
when we fall apart and rebuild ourselves

aware of what truly matters
that I want to give you the best of me
alive, and unafraid to lose all for you
