A concept coined by Karl Marx referring to society's extreme obsession with material objects.
Commodity Fetishism is everywhere in Western Society today. Just look around around you. All the commotion surrounding Apple releasing yet another iphone with minor improvements. Cars are another example. Inanimate products which are so well known by their particular brand and certain model type to everyone, with most having definitions on urban dictionary even going so far as to define the certain type of person who drives such a model. When in reality the only importance of a car for most people is a sustainable mode of transport that can get you from one place to another. As a guitarist myself I find the guitar world is also guilty of this, many placing excessive importance over brand names (Gibson, Fender etc.), models (Telecaster, Strat, SG, Les Paul etc.) and hell even types of this model (1959 telecaster, Roadworn Strat, <insert famous guitarist here> signature model Les Paul Custom, Standard, Studio, express, 100, 100 elitist etc. etc.). Commodity Fetishism is the explanation why people get worked up for hours comparing the minor variations and specifications of the same 6 stringed instrument that they can barely play.
This behavior is heavily mocked in the character Patrick Bateman from the movie (and book) "American Psycho".

1. "That's bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Rail...
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark..."
- Patrick Bateman's words when comparing his business card with his co-worker's identical looking ones in "American Psycho".
2. "Thanks to commodity fetishism, I got bullied when I was 8 because my parents drove a Ford Fiesta while their parents drove Volvo*. And kids don't even drive...."
*defined on Urban dictionary as "The only car a true pimp would be seen in"

Get the Commodity Fetishismmug. Very underrated musician, and former guitarist for the Doors. While Jim Morrison definitely has the spotlight for the Doors, Robby the youngest member of the group, was also important as a songwriter, responsible for the hit "Light My Fire" as well as half the material on "The Soft Parade". As well as being a brilliant guitarist he's a pretty damn good vocalist too. He mightn't be Jim Morrison but yeah he can sing alright. Check out his string of solo albums.
And any doors fans will know that "Spanish Caravan" and his improvised live guitar solos justify his greatness.

Person 1 : Man "Love Her Madly" is an awesome song. A Morrison favorite of mine along with "Runnin' Blue"
Person 2 : Actually both those songs were written by Robby Krieger
Person 1: Who?
Person 2: The Doors guitarist....the guy who sings on the chorus of Runnin' Blue
Person 1: No.....that's Bob Dylan idiot! The Doors were only session musicians that acted as Jim's backing group!
*Person 2 facepalms*

Get the Robby Kriegermug. A german musical equipment manufacturer that produces its goods in china. Among many things they make mixers, amplifiers and microphones and sell them at significantly low prices. Often get a bad rap by professionals often times unfairly. While not all of their stuff is always the most reliable choice, their value is incredible and to most starving artists the accessibility to good gear at a fraction of the price of other brands is a godsend.
I would have to sell my house to buy most advanced mixing consoles but the behringer does the job just fine at a fraction of the price. The price difference much exceeds the quality difference.

Get the Behringermug. A term rather stupidly thrown around by people often racist blacks (black people can be racist too as proven in this definition) online and in the U.S as an insult or to describe a male as an effeminate pussy. Although technically a white guy is simply just A WHITE GUY
I've seen many a youtube video entitled White guy does x or white guy does y, White guy hits really low note (race does not factor human vocal range).

EXAMPLE 1
Person 1: Man what a fight! Hate to say it but that White Guy won fair and square!
Person 2: Well quite obviously....because he's a 230 lb 36 year old bodybuilder....and his black opponent was a 14 year old kid who had barely hit puberty...
EXAMPLE 2
Person 1: That white boy thinks he's so fly? He got nothing on me. Fucking Pussy faggot.
Person 2: Dude, your dad was an award winning rap artist. You may be black but you have lived comfortably off his millionaire income your entire life. That 'white boy' is Albanian and grew up in the roughest neighbourhood in Tirana. I really wouldn't mess with him.
