A conversational phenomenon in which the introduction of a second individual during a discussion about a first person leads to confusion, typically because one participant continues to assume that the subject of conversation remains the initial individual

During the meeting, Sarah was discussing James's performance, but when she abruptly mentioned Daniel without clearly indicating a shift in subject, Michael, exhibiting the Lovitz-Gillis Effect, remained under the impression that she was still referring to James
