The "spice" 

The "spice" (melange: means mixture in French) is a common reason for life widening. It is in the Dune novel that it first appears (actually, it came in the 1750's). The "spice" in Dune is important because it can extend your life. Also addictive if you didn't take Bene Gesserit training. It is found in Arrakis, informally called Dune. stolen by the Harkonnens, CHOAM, Spacing Guild and House Corrino.

John used the "spice" without proper Bene Gesserit training; he died.

Glice 

a thick-white-little-solid-type mixture. Usually another word for "rice".

The glice is now poured into the spice, now it is really rice.
