A mall that at one time didn't need new life on site, since people loved going there and skating at the ice rink. There is nothing that will replace it, no matter what gets built there now. Somebody thought it would be better if it crumbled than if it was still standing, and people allowed it to happen, the same way they did Thunder Road.
Eastland Mall didn't really need to be lost, and there's not anything they could build that would replace it. Sometimes something was already done right once, then somebody came along trying to destroy it, and it won't ever be right again, it's gone.

In reality, there are some people who are male and content being single and celibate, just like their are females who are content to live the same way. The guy knew that there were just as many narcissistic and self-serving females in the world as their were narcissistic and selfish males (like himself, the asshole that he was) from experience in the world, and so he just stayed single, no matter who came up with a new rumor about him. There were too many people who had an obsession with living like they were in Hollywood all the time with their bullshit gossip and rumors, which even some of the people in Hollywood found irritating.
