office Santa

Sarcastic way of describing a person who, usually during the winter at the height of cold and flu season, comes into work sick as a dog and "spreads the wealth around", like Santa Claus.
Try not to get too close to Jack for the next few days. He's the office Santa, spreading his damn flu to everybody. Doesn't his boss realize that we're losing productivity because he's making everyone sick?!

A part of Russia, located in the Caucasus Mountains north of Azerbaijan, that along with its neighbor Chechnya, has become another hellhole because of al-Qaeda. Daghestan is home to small tribes of people speaking over thirty languages, some Caucasic (e.g. Avar, Lak, Rutul, Bezhta, Dido, Lezgin, Tsakhur etc.), Turkic (e.g. Noghai and Kumyk), Semitic (e.g. Assyrian, Hebrew and Arabic), Indo-European (e.g. Russian, Armenian, Greek etc.), and even Tungusic (e.g. Kalmyk, a close relative to Mongolian).
The Dept. of the State has issued travelers' advisories for people who want to visit Daghestan from Azerbaijan: don't even think about it. The borders are closed!

A griot; one of a class of musicians/storytellers of West Africa. Jelis usually accompany themselves on the kora, a type of harp/lute found in the Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, and Mauritania, or on the xalam, a one- to five-stringed small lutelike or banjolike plucked string instrument. The female counterpart to a jeli is called jelimuso.
Mali produces some of the best jelis in all of West Africa.

kadaggle

The frantic hand motions and clattering sounds produced when one makes an unsuccessful attempt to retrieve a falling object.
The history professor made quite a kadaggle when he tried to pick up the mouse from his computer, and the class laughed.
