Device Regulation Support (DRS)
A proposed, non-medical term describing a recurring need or experience where access to a familiar electronic device helps provide comfort, reassurance, or emotional regulation. Someone experiencing DRS may feel increased anxiety when separated from their device and may benefit from having it nearby or occasionally using it for regulation.
DRS is not a medical diagnosis, disability, or legally recognized condition. It is simply a way to describe this personal experience. It can be compared generally to the comforting function of an emotional support animal, but it does not give a device any equivalent legal status or automatically qualify someone for accommodations.
