A group of states that didn't like the way United States of America was going, so they said they weren't really part of the United States of America anymore. The rest of the country didn't like this, so they started a war. A lot of people think the war was fought over slavery, but that was just one issue among many. Most southerners didn't even own slaves, although most of the ones who did owned a lot of them. The next most common thing is to own one slave or no slaves.
If the Confederate States of America had won, things would be so much better now. People would've abolished slavery eventually and the Confederate States of America were much more for state rights than our government is today.

In 90's there was a cult that thought they were going to get taken into the heavens in a space ship. Several of them got castrated to help them clear their mind, 'cause no one does those kinds of things in heaven. Once a room was found with 30 Heaven's Gate members who had commited suicide. They thought they were leaving their bodies so they could get into the spaceship, which was behind some comet that had happened to show up.

They claim to be Christian, but they're a cult, and no one is quite sure what they believe anymore. There's a lot of information about them online and wikipedia will link you to their official website as well.
Poor Sod: I'm lost, confused, self deprivating, and desperate. I should go join Heaven's Gate Cult! A cult would fill the void!

Cuba was once ruled by a military ruler, until Fidel Castro came into power after a revolution. Fidel Castro quickly tried to secure trade ties with the United States, but as he was sympathetic to communists the United States was afraid he was one himself. Having no trade ties with the United States, he turned to the Soviet Union.

He is a great speaker and charismatic leader who gained power legitimately. It is contested whether he has maintained power legitamently.

He made health care available to all people and schooling free. However, after the fall of the Soviet Union Cuba's middle class has been losing support for Fidel Castro. The dissenters of the middle class and those trying to escape the poverty forced by the embargo make up those trying to flee Cuba. Support within the lower class is still strong.

Economically Cuba is a much more equal place to live. However, social freedoms are not as good. There are many of what Amnesty International calls "Prisoners of Conscience." It is illegal to speak against Fidel Castro, even peacefully. Many things such as this are problems in Cuba.

The embargo is a huge blow to Cuba economically, which has repetedly been voted against by the vast majority of the United Nations. The embargo also serves to cover up the social injustices of Cuba as there is less trade coming in and out of Cuba. If the Embargo were ended, Cuba would be a better place to live economically and socially.

The United States had repetedly tried to murder Fidel Castro and even tried to launch an invasion. This invasion became known as the Bay of Pigs. It was unsuccessful as Fidel Castro quickly squelched what support there was and the rest Cuba's population resisted strongly.

Fidel Castro is one of the most successful socialist revolutionary leaders. He transformed Cuba into a much more economically equal place than places like America, but he has been a harsh leader as well. His age is getting up there though and he can't live too much longer. Upon his death, his brother, Raul Castro, will mostly like gain power.
People act like Fidel Castro has made Cuba a crappy place. Cuba has it's problems, but so does the United States. They just aren't the same problems.

I greatly admire Fidel Castro as a socialist leader, even if I don't agree with everything he did in the name of Communism.

A television show featuring large talking bananas that would run around in their night clothes in public during broad daylight. I used to watch it sometimes when I was around 4 when I got pretty bored. I thought it sucked then, so if I'm any example kids don't even like it. I remember someone trying to swim in a bench on that show.

A branch of Communism created by Mao Zedong. This branch differed greatly from Marxism.

For instance, Karl Marx thought that economies had stages they went through such as slavery, feudal, ect, until you get to capitalism. Marx taugt that capitalism would eventually lead way to the next stage of communism.

Mao Zedong lived in a country with a bunch of peasents. However, he thought China would do pretty well as a communist country even though he was breaking with the very basics of Marxist thought. So he got some peasents, killed people, and took over the government. From peasents to communism, only not real communism.

Marx taught that the prolaterians (see proletarian) were supposed to take over and then lead the country themselves.

Mao Zedong taught that people didn't really know what was good for them, but of course he did. He had some kind of metaphor that set up a body where he was the head, the goverment the arms, and the people the other parts. Or something like that. Basicly he wanted to be seen as God.

In short, Maoism is a lame excuse for communism that Mao Zedong used to gain power and not Marxism at all.
I was with a group of communists running away from an anti-commie hate group the other day that was trying to shoot us. We hid out in an abondonded church and eventually we found out that this one guy who was supposed to be communist really believed in Maoism, so we shot him ourselves.

A type of incredibly short dress, derived from the term mini.

I can find no evidence of these, but when I posted on a message board about how I thought dresses were long a girl corrected me by telling me about minis and maximinis. Girls believe in them.
If you believe in maximinis clap your hands!
