mp5
A sub-machinegun developed by Heckler & Koch in the 1960's. Derived from the famous G3 series of assault rifles, the MP5 used the same delayed-blowblack rollerlocking system. Originally chambered for 9 mm Parabellum, the venerable MP5 has also been rechambered for 10 mm Auto and .40 Smith & Wesson, with the latter being a preferred calibre of the FBI. Probably one of the most proliferous SMG's in the world, although it could be supplanted by newer submachineguns, due to the growing obsoleteness of 9 mm cartrdiges against armored targets.
Abbreviation for Fabrique National, a Belgian firearms manufacturer based in Herstal, currently owned by the French firearms company GIAT. FN is known for their line of high-quality and innovative weapons, with their most recent projects being the P90/Five-seveN weapons systems, and their newest F2000 bullpup assault rifle.
AK-47
The world's absolute most proliferous assault rifle, with more than 90 million units currently existing. Commonly seen as a terrorist weapon, and for good reason, as it is relatively inexpensive, and very robust, able to brave extreme weather conditions. Chambered for the Russian 7.62 x 39 mm rifle cartridge.
CAR15
A "commando" weapon, as well as a personal defense weapon platform, the CAR-15 was designed to be a compact package with high firepower to be issued to troops whose primary duties were not front-line combat. Commando's also chose the CAR-15 due to its compact size. It met with little success however, as several faults such as excessive muzzle flash and reduced accuracy dropped its overall effectiveness.
