Short for 'the metropolitan' and could refer to The Metropolitan Opera House, The Met Gala held by The Metropolitan Mueum or the museum itself. Super fancy, super formal, high-fashion, expensive, peak refined civilization atmosphere.

"The Met" is another name for Manomet, a part of Plymouth, Massachusetts. The area is known for drugs, gangs, breaks in, poverty, and violence. Cops patrol heaviest in this area. Don't waste your time in The Met, don't go there if you don't need to, and if you do go, get the hell out fast.

The Met 

A name commonly used in Lancashire to refer to a Metropolitan Hotel Pub. The Metropolitan is a chain, similar to Weatherspoons, except far larger and more impressive.
You'd bring a camera to the met, but not 'spoons. Also, spoons sells terrible but far cheaper alcohol.
A Met' is usually the largest pub in a square mile and will be filled with either toffs or scroungers, never anything above middle class though.
