A syllabary is a type of writing system that writes whole syllables in single characters. This differs from alphabet writing system, which use characters to record individual syllables.
Japanese and Cherokee use syllabary writing.

syllabatitis

An severe inablility to discern or understand the syllables that make up words. For example; a monosyllable (such a word is monosyllabic), while a word consisting of two syllables (like monkey) is called a disyllable (such a word is disyllabic). A word consisting of three syllables (such as indigent) is called a trisyllable (the adjective form is trisyllabic). A word consisting of more than three syllables (such as intelligence)
