In 1752, the founder of Pottstown, John Potts, built an iron forge and inspired the opportunity for rich business and commerce which stretched from Philadelphia to the coal regions of Pottsville, PA. This industrial history had enabled Pottstown with the structural leadership to increase its population, prove its strong character, and house a diverse community of interests. In the 1950-60's Pottstown was the victim of a cross-cultural and unwaivering depression that existed in many industrial towns in America - ones that relied on heavy steel production and manual labor. This national shift of economic interests left many towns in a loss - of social, economic, and political unity. However, the revitalization efforts of Pottstown in the past 15-20 years, with the mighty efforts of non profit, borough, and community related initiatives, has proven the heritage and value of Pottstown is in a transformative state of progress. Pottstown is alive with people who are committed citizens and agents of positive change. Instead of dwelling on the misfortune of an inevitable shift in the American economy, true Pottstownians are creating solutions that reflect a deep appreciation of our families, schools, and community. Pottstown means that you help support walking on the Riverfront Park Heritage Site, visiting the Gallery School of Art, seeing a play downtown at Village Productions, going to the PAC 10 Pottstown High School basketball games, getting lunch at The Johnson Kitchen, and enjoying a beverage and music at the Pottstown Brick House. Pottstown means being proud of your education because you can demonstrate skills to recognize socioeconomic diversity, test the judgement of real world concepts, and help understand a complex generation of youth. Pottstown means you are a fighter. Pottstown means you are cooler than anyone else from any other industrial suburbanite town, because by living here you are not a gangster, punk, emo, indie elitist, wasp, middle class, high class, low class, nerd, jock, skater, hipster, headbanger, druggie, academic -you are you, unique, growing, and someone who deserves appreciation. Pottstown - "New horizons, forged from a rich past."
Hey, I thought I would get a cup of coffee and read the paper about how great the Parks and Rec. Dept. are doing in Pottstown, you know instead of completely ignoring my community and complaining about it and breathing all the life out of every soul in this town trying to save it.

A great place to grow up, because you are exposed to many different types of people, all kinds of races, and all kinds of beliefs. There may be crime, but no more than any other place. There may be gangsters, but there are also successful people. The high school is a great place to go because there aren't cliques, no bullying, no bullshit. Just people, and we all get along, regardless of race, regardless of belief, regardless of anything. And whoever wrote the definition before this one obviously doesn't know what a good education is anyway, or hasn't tried to pursue one, because half of the words describing Pottstown were spelled wrong.
Pottstown is a small town, but it has a lot of genuine people.

40 miles northwest of Philadelphia Pa lies the quaint suburb of Pottstown. Nestled within the eye of Montgomery County's bermuda triangle; Occidental Chemical, radiation-enriched landfill and Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. Even the town newspaper is named after the primary element found in the local fish-The Mercury. The village is rich with history, including the Pottsgrove Manor and old pony truss bridge. This is pleasantly juxtaposed by the State Street Tavern and Sheridan's nuts and news. Watch locals porch-monkey their unemployed kiesters on their dilapidated twins while pregnant 15 year-old girls proudly wheel their first born about town. Enjoy fishin the Manatawny crick for brookies, as locals call it. Just cast your rusty hook into the muddy depths and see what chomps down on the corn-kernal bait. The locals have a unique look that comes from a combination of in-breeding from Pennhurst State Hospital discharges and crack cocaine abuse. For night life, you can enjoy a movie at the Carmike theater, complete with sticky floors, urine smell and pestulence. The town mall is complete with shops that are closing down because the residents would rather spend their money on beer and lottery tickets. English is the primary language, however, you would blend in better ordering scrapple at the VIP Diner on High Street. Extra points for replying that everyone is ignant (ignorant).

Or Ptown as the local blacks call it. Located between Philadelphia and Reading it is a huge drug traffiking center. Sitting on the Ho Chi Minh trail of narcotics, Pottstown has became nothing more than a hole of depression and low-income. Many of the more successful residents are moving into the hills to try and escape the crime, depression, and delapidation that is Pottstown. Two high schools, 4 miles apart: one is full of graduates and students persuing higher education (Pottsgrove) and the other is the complete opposite which requires a day-care for many single mothers who are still in high school. The local economy is in shambles as the municipality tries desperately to pick up the pieces. The main street, High Street, once bustling is now an alley of garbage, tumbleweeds, and drug-addicted lunatics who walk up and down the street all day and night. Wal-Mart is the town's center for business and many outside businesses are trying to get space in the same shopping center as Wal-Mart to try and make a profit off the already debted Pottstown residents. This place should be avoided at all costs!

Pottstown is located between Reading and Philadelphia PA along Rt. 422

Pottstown has been called Ptown as far back as I can remember by most of its residents its like calling Philadelphia "Philly

Yes Pottstown has its share of problems as most towns do however to call it names like shit hole and so many other negative things does not make it better.

There are good things about this small town like the school district being focused on education and not spending it's funding on revamping it's football field. There is a group if people working with borough and county government to revitalize the downtown area and working on cutting back crime. Yes I was born and spent a large part of my life in Pottstown PA and am proud to call it my hometown.
Pottstown a great place to live.
