plotvoid

A void in the plot of a fictional work.

To elaborate, a plotvoid is a portion of a narrative (of which has at least slight importance or relevance) that is directly implied or briefly mentioned, and seems important enough to provide detail about, but there is little to none whatsoever. Similar to a plothole in essence, but not nearly as harmful to a story overall: a plotvoid can't ever directly contradict the content of the story, rather it is just a perceivable lack of it. If the plotvoid is big enough however (by being bothersome enough to the viewer), some may argue that it leads to one or multiple plotholes if the implied/expected event contains an element that is deemed erroneous in some way and is henceforth never justified, given it's place within a plotvoid.

Plotvoids are empty spaces with fairly clear context but sparse detail, often with little less than a single mention or a small leap in rational logic cluing the audience into their existence. In many instances, just a bit of exposition (or a brief transition scene in the case of visual media) would go a long way to help mend a plotvoid. As a result of their importance and lack of concrete detail, fans of a work will often fill plotvoids with headcanon, and may use them as a basis for fanfiction.
1. In Dark Knight Rises, how the hell did Bruce get back to Gotham after he got out of that Middle Eastern prison? Did he call in a Batjet? How did he arrive and totally clean himself up in like, one day? I mean, it's not like it doesn't make sense, Batman definitely has the resources to make it happen, so it's not really a plothole, more like a plotvoid.

2. So, during the 11 years after JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3, Jotaro goes from being 17 years old to 28, graduates from high school, gets a friggin PhD in marine biology, gets married, has a kid, and is already divorced by the time he shows up in Part 4? Do we ever even learn his wife's goddamn name? No?? Jesus, that's kind of a plotvoid, isn't it?
