obie light

A light which generates a subtle twinkle or glint in the eyes. In filmmaking cinematographers often use an "obie" light just near the lens, aimed at an actress in a close up. It was a nickname created by use of such lighting for actress Merle Oberon who was known for her attractively seductive eyes.
Director of Photography: "Let's give Angie a little sumpin in the eyes. Put that 'obie light' right here next to the camera!"
