Honestly.
I'm quite shocked.
So, let's get this defined.
Nu-metal.
A form of metal that uses influences from rap, hip-hop and various heavy-metal genres.
At first, it was quite a good genre, but now that it is popular, and therefore 'Mainstream', people have this idea that it is a brainwasher.
Yes, I will admit there are some bands I want to throttle, alot of them nu-metal, but I hafta get this off my chest.
The First Punching-bag of the "MAnStR34m 1S 4 l0zrs Lol!!!1!" Brigade;
Slipknot.
A Nu-metal band from Iowa, save for their bassist, who's from somewhere else.
I'm not a big fan, but their music's alright.
Korn.
A band from god-knows where, that I dont listen to them much.
I'm not that much of a fan, but I love the vocalist's mic-stand.
Limp Biz(s?)Cit.
I will admit I hate this band.
Look.
The point I'm trying to get across is this.
Give it a chance!
You might find something you like!
Because, if you go around claiming that all music from that genre sucks, you're no better than the people who resent metal entirely.

Me: Wow, this Slipknot's not bad, they got good sounds.
Friend: shmeh, I'm not into nu metal, but yeah, I'll go with the flow.
That was a good example, here's what not to do:
Me: Wow, this slipknot's pretty awesome.
Friend: What? But they're nu-metal! That's so mainstream!
Me: And?
'Friend': And nothing! Stop listening to that and put on (Generic band)!
Me:...
Friend: Even though I bitch about equal treatment, I still think everything form that genre must sound bad becau-, Hey, whatcha doing with that chainsa- YEEAAARRGGGHHHBEEGHG!
So, give a genre a chance, and shut up.
Jesus, whiny c*nts.

A form of hard rock, that started in the early 1990s, with such bands as Korn. Contrary to popular belief, Nu Metal is not actuualy a Metal style, because it evolved from hardcore, which in turn evolved from punk, and not metal.
Nu Metal is closely related to rapcore.

A new subgenre of metal which includes bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, and various others from the late 80's to today.
Is often bashed and heavily criticized by "true metal fans" for being "mainstream", or for having "no talent"
These guys are just introducing a new metal sound, guys. Get over it. Many people like it, and that's why it became mainstream. I might not like some of the bands, but I don't call them "fake" because of that. They're just as much metal as Metallica or Slayer are, and just because they sound different doesn't mean they suck. It sure would be boring if all bands sounded the same, don't you think?
I like all kinds of metal - power, thrash, progressive, and even nu. Here are some examples: I like Slipknot but I don't like Slayer. I like Children of Bodom but I don't like Korn.
It's still that metal I know and love, so I listen to it. If I don't like a band, I just don't listen to it. I don't come here and call them fake. If I wanted to complain, I'd at least give good reasons for my complaint.

Non-Idiot: Dude, just because it's a different genre doesn't mean it's fake. Just appreciate it or shut up about it.

Nu-metal, a term created for all those band with so wide a range that they couldnt be put into a single group. bands such as Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, bands who could be put into labels such as rap rock, rapcore, metal, electro etc. its a wide range of music in which the different bands are nothing alike with different music styles and different goals in music. Nu-Metal is not a new label, its not a new music style, its people fuckin up bands who dont even want to be in this section

I felt it was high time someone made a definition without opinions so here goes. Nu metal is a subgenre of metal emerging in the late 90s with bands like Korn, hence the name "new metal" later changed to nu metal to define it late ron when it wasn't new anymore. Nu metal fuses several subgenres of metal(mostly death and thrash metal)with rap VERY different from rapcore(rap metal)which is simply hiphop with metal as musical backing. Notice slipknot's use of turntables another nu metal thing, heavy use of turntables and such. No nu metal band is without a keyboard and synthesizer.
A perfect example of nu metal is linkin park's faint, notice how some of the lyrics are sort of rapped but others are sung in the traditional metal way (high pitched yelling, grunts and growls etc.)
Nu metal contrary to popular belief is real metal just new...anyone who was a metalhead in the 80s probably dislikes nu metal simply because its new. Face it, adults have always frowned at their kids music. Furthermore several nu metal bands have played at ozzfest before(and who are we to question the judgement of lord ozzy?).

Copied from wikipedia:Bands linked with nu metal derive influence from a variety of diverse styles, including electronica/electronic music, funk, glam rock, gothic rock, grunge, hardcore punk, hip hop, industrial rock, jazz, post punk and synthpop. Also, nu metal derives influence from multiple subgenres of heavy metal including rap metal, funk metal and thrash metal. Nu metal music is mostly syncopated and based on riffs. Its lack of guitar solos and virtuousity contrasts it with other metal subgenres. Another way in which nu metal is contrasted with other metal subgenres is its emphasis on rhythm. Similarities with other metal subgenres include its use of common time, distorted guitars, power chords and note structures primarily revolving around Dorian, Aeolian or Phrygian modes. Some nu metal bands use 7-string guitars over traditional 6-string guitars. 7-string guitars, which are sometimes downtuned to increase heaviness, resulted in bass guitarists using five-string and six-string instruments. Some nu metal bands feature a DJ for additional rhythmic instrumentation. The vocals of many bands may range from melodic singing to rapping to screaming to death growling or in some cases have all of these styles in a single song but it can range from song to song. The lyrics of many nu metal bands focus on pain and personal alienation rather than the themes of other metal subgenres. I thought Id put a definition in that doesnt use childish behaviour to put foward biased arguments

The biggest musical perversion ever to crawl out of some executive's arse since boy bands. Nu metal takes the single best genre of music ever created and turns it into repetitive, shallow, unromantic drivel.
Examples of Nu metal bands: Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Limp Dipshit, etc.
People should try listening to REAL metal, like.. Queensryche, Symphony X, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Opeth, In Flames, Iced Earth.. There are too many to list.
