loudness

An 80's hair metal band that are still alive and kicking today. They have changed their line up thoughout the years, but have reformed with their original line up. Their newest CD (made in 2004) is called Racing, and it is more thrash metal mixed with their 80's metal. One of the best things that came out Japan.

loudness war

(noun) The current trend in which music is produced and mastered to be as loud as possible so that it "stands out" on radio and other media. This is generally achieved by compressing the audio waveform so that the overall loudness of the wave can be increased. Compression literally squeezes the dynamic range (and therefore the impact) out of a piece of music.
Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a great example of an excellent album compromised by poor mastering. The loudness war is killing music.

awkward loudness

So you're blasting your favorite music,(preferably sublime) and you're singing as loud as you can, or along with the beat. Suddenly one of your friends has to say something, so they turn the music off to speak. A split second later you stop to realize everyone just heard you screaming. High five, you're a victim of awkward loudness.
Dude my friends dad was bumping my FAVORITE song, then he got a call. I think whoever he was talking to heard me yelling. It took me a minute to comprehend what happened in that time frame. Awkward loudness is funny as hell.

loidness

The characteristic jarring note transition/inflection, unnatural vibrato and underlying roughness of the vocals created by Vocaloid singing synthesizer software. Songs with high loidness are easily identifiable as a synthetic creation (i.e. by computer), while songs with low loidness can be mistaken by those unfamiliar with Vocaloid to be sung by humans (i.e. real people).

Though it is easier to reduce loidness in new versions of Vocaloid software, loidness is not necessarily a negative attribute in synthesized songs; many listeners consider it an integral part of a Vocaloid persona, and enjoy its presence in such songs.

Synthetic vocals without loidness will likely be extremely competitive in the general singing industry, though acceptance of loidness would probably also increase.
"Right, so I've listened to these three songs for hours, and then ranked them from low to high loidness: Miracle∞Gumiracle (Megpoid GUMI), Ai Dee (Megurine Luka/Hatsune Miku) and Jenga (Hatsune Miku)." - A slightly OCD loidphile.

"I think the newer Vocaloid songs of experienced producers have increasingly refined loidness." A slightly pretentious loidphile.
