Canter step (forestep)

When the take off or lift of a jump occurs as a canter, transitioning out of whatever gait was there before the jump.

A starting jump is technically considered a canter step (forestep).

Forestep

The step directly before a jump. Commonly mistaken for a starting jump, it occurs when the paws land at the same time as each other before a jump.

Why don't we just call a canter step a forestep?
