Yarndling
Ancient craft carried out around the world, often using gloves called chorns. Nowadays, yarndling attracts a fair amount of attention, especially in the summer months, and it is not unusual for tourists to travel to those areas where yarndling is still performed. Since 1938, the British Isles Yarndling Association (patron: Prince Charles) has overseen all competitive threading activities.
The results of the threading competition had been posted in the East Grinstead Community Centre and Graham was pleased that his yarndling exploits had earned him second place, despite the rusty bevelling on his cotter pins.

Yarnie
A person obsessed with all things yarn. They always have something yarn related on them. They are usually multi-craftual. (Knit, Crochet, Weave) With interest more in the yarn itself verse what is made with it. They often hoard yarn that is very expensive just because they like the yarn.

trucker's tan
A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
