Xica is an alternative way of spelling the word chica (a word that is primarily used in Spanish & Portuguese speaking countries). Xica or chica usually refers to a young girl or woman. It can also be a way of describing a Latin woman as sexy or attractive.

Xica can also be a first or middle name for a girl (this is more commonly seen in Brazil). Many people started naming their daughters Xica after Francisca da Silva, who is also known as Xica da Silva. Xica was a slave in the 1700s but was later freed and had her slave history erased. Xicana 

Xicanismo transcends a mere label of being Mexican or Mexican American. The “X” connects the person to a recognition of their indigenous identity that is often overlooked by many Mexicans. Just as many in the Mexican community decry their Blackness, many to decry their indigenous culture and indigenous blood. This identity of Xicanismo reclaims indigenaity by using the “X” which is commonly used for the “ch” sound in indigenous languages.

I am unapologetically Xicana. I am a mezcla of colonized peoples, and I recognize my indigenous ancestors.

The Nahautl did not have a written language they used hieroglyphics. The sound of "ch" written in the Greco-Roman alphabet was put in place by the Spanish not the Nahautl.
