Triverge

Instead of meaning to turn in two ways, like diverge, triverge means to turn in three ways.

The affranchis, slaves, and whites had trivergent interests; the affranchis wanted to be treated equally as whites but wanted to maintain slavery, the slaves wanted complete freedom, and the whites wanted affranchis and slaves to remain inferior on the social hierarchy.
