A "toam" is a clever term for a swimming pool with a fence around it, coined by reversing the letters in "moat." Unlike a traditional moat which keeps people out, a toam is designed to keep people in - or at least the ones who don't belong there. While a moat is water surrounding a barrier, a toam is water within a barrier. It's a simple concept but it paints a pretty vivid picture.
We've got ourselves a proper toam back there, a real oasis in the middle of this concrete jungle – perfect for those sweltering summer days.
