Taiwan is the diamond of Asia/Pacific Islands. Thought to be a ecnomic powerhouse and the most economically sound country in all of Asia of our time. The Chinese throughout time have considered Taiwan a rebel state. We say... shove it. Because of our status within the world, the US stations naval carriers and destroyers along the strait of Taiwan to make sure the Chinese dont get a little bold.

A country I DO NOT wish to be united with China. I have gotten enough of the "Taiwan and China are like brothers" crap I have to say something at this point. "Chinese don't kill Chinese" was the line the communists kept repeating when the nationalists government tried to eliminate the threat. Ok, fine, the nationalists heard that and decided to let go--biggest mistake ever. A few years later the communists started to fight the nationalists, who ultimately fled to Taiwan. Oh, but that's not enough. Fifty years later when Taiwan has become an economical wonder they are here talking about *brothers* again! Sorry for me being skeptical, but I and perhaps MOST Taiwanese are not going to be stupid enough to fall for that.
The Chinese government should fix the starvation, illiteracy percentage, unequal property distribution, AIDS carriers, black government operations, human rights violations and communistic society first, then maybe Taiwan would consider an union.

As the others have said, Taiwan is an independant country that is in Asia and is considered an economic power house. A lot of computer parts are made in Taiwan or by a Taiwanese company (ie. Asus, Acer, BenQ, Leadtek, MSI, Gigabyte and many more). Taiwan's status is only not defined because of PRC' and mainland Chinese' irgnorance.

Same culture, same language/dialet means shit. Countries(independant political entity) are not bounded by such rubbish. Take a look at South Korea and North Korea, they eat the same food, share the same culture, blood-related etc.

Taiwan is actually the name of the island. The country's name is Republic of China(ROC). ROC's seat in the UN was replaced by the People's Republic of China in the early 1970s, however ROC was offered another seat but Chiang-Kai-Shek forfeited the seat because he insisted "one or the other".

The Taiwanese people have been separated from the mainland for 50+ years, their dialect has changed, the language has changed. Taiwan uses traditional Chinese while the mainland uses simplified Chinese.

A democratic island country which is not recognized by the western powers solely because they want to maintain a economic relationship with People's Republic of China.

It had been under the colonization of different nations: The Dutch, the Japanese, and then the Chinese Nationalist who fled to Taiwan after losing the civil war against the Chinese Communists. After decades, the Nationalists and the Taiwanese eventually became one, just when the Communists start to claim that Taiwan is part of China.

*Some reasons why don't the Taiwanese people want to be a part of China:

Corrupt government controlled by a single party.

Controlled media.

Mass genocide. (Tibet and Uyghur)

No right for their people (they can't even vote)

They have hunderds of missles ready to launch to Taiwan.

They've locked the economy of Taiwan and plan to press it further.

The Taiwanese people don't pay taxes to the Chinese government.
Most of the world have turned their back against us because of self interest. Where is justice? Where is human rights? Why should we, who had been enslaved again and again and finally regained independence, be robbed of our land once more?

Like the Tibetans and the Urghur people, We need to be freed from Chinese opression once and for all. I hope you've all seen Brave Heart. What we need is FREEDOM.

We are born to the island of Taiwan, and it is our home.

We were raised here, from infants to adults.

On this little piece of land we find our love, just like you.

We will grow old, and we will die here.

We are the Taiwanese.
