A crowd of people screaming together in perfect harmony in order to entertain and distract their audience from the obvious voids between the parts of the real story happening on centre stage.

I didn't sleep through the whole opera. The choir leapt into a stasimon everytime the opera singers paused. I thought my alarm was going off.
