Smoky can be used to describe a good or bad thing depending on inflection.

Used to describe a negative situation.

A family member clearly knows they burnt the shit out of a dinner item but still serves it to a large group of unsuspecting people.

Used to describe a positive situation.

Taking a dip in a cool Texas river on a 95 degree day.
