Quantum of Solace

- The amount of comfort. All love and friendship is based in the end on that. When the quantum of solace stands at zero, you've got to get away to save yourself. From Ian Fleming's short story of the same name in the Bond collection For Your Eyes Only.
The Governor paused and looked reflectively over at Bond. He said: "You're not married, but I think it's the same with all relationships between a man and a woman. They can survive anything so long as some kind of basic humanity exists between the two people. When all kindness has gone, when one person obviously and sincerely doesn't care if the other is alive or dead, then it's just no good. That particular insult to the ego - worse, to the instinct of self-preservation - can never be forgiven. I've noticed this in hundreds of marriages. I've seen flagrant infidelitiespatched up, I've seen crimes and even murder forgiven by the other party, let alone bankruptcy and every other form of social crime. Incurable disease, blindness, disaster - all these can be overcome. But never the death of common humanity in one of the partners. I've thought about this and I've invented a rather high-sounding title for this basic factor in human relations. I have called it the Law of the Quantum of Solace."

quantum of solace

22nd bond movie. It's mostly Judi Dench bitching at Daniel Craig in between horribly shot and edited action scenes that have no point.
No one knows what quantum of solace even means.

Quantum Of Solace

One of the poorest Bond movies ever made. It’s directed like the fence scene from Taken 2 and is like a cheap Bourne knockoff featuring a stupid plot about a little French man hijacking Bolivia’s water supply to then ransom it back to them for discount S.P.E.C.T.R.E and features very flat performances all around. One of the biggest boils on the James Bond franchise’s ass along with SPECTRE, Die Another Day, A View To A Kill, Licence To Kill and Tomorrow Never Dies. Only good thing this load of rubbish gave us was Skyfall 4 years later.
Quantum Of Solace? More like Load Of Baloney. You don’t follow Casino Royale with THIS!!

funiosity

The art of being peculiar, but in an amusing fashion.
"Wow, look at that dog running on three legs"
- "Yeah, that sure is a funiosity"

A toe rag was originally a foot wrapping used, since mediaeval times up until the mid-nineteenth century, to protect the foot from chafing by boots or shoes. As these were, quite literally, rags they weren’t usually washed, and so with use they became very smelly until they were thrown away. Because of the similarity in smell, toe rag also became the name applied to dried, salted cod or other things with a strong, unpleasant, fishy smell. It didn’t take that long before the name was applied to someone who was an obnoxious, unpleasant OIC.
1 “Socks! Those aren’t socks you smelly git, they’re toe rags!”
2 “What have you been cooking? Smells like toe rag!”
3 “I can smell ‘er fanny from ‘ere, proper toe rag.”
4 That Heale Malcolm is a right toe rag.

Eternity leave

When some resigns or retires from a job, they are on "eternity leave". This can also refer to someone who has passed away, especially someone who worked somewhere for a long time, retired/resigned, then passed away later.
Oh I'm sorry, you didn't know that Kelly is on eternity leave? She resigned and moved to Hawaii!

With regrets I would like to inform you that my boss is officially on eternity leave. I will never see or hear them again. Ever.
