The Maryland Point
The point at which a flag which initially looks ugly morphs into becoming beautiful. Most commonly seen with the flag of the US state of Maryland, from which the term takes its name
The flag of British Columbia, boy is it a gong show. But it manages to cross the Maryland Point where ugly becomes awesome

A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.
