Lowjaning

The opposite of hijacking. Lowjaning would involve the pilot or crew of a vessel abandoning their duties (for example, by bailing out after stealing valuable cargo). This may result in the vessel crashing afterwards, unless there are passengers aboard who are able to take over (i.e., hijack) the controls.
1. There’s only one situation where hijacking is actually a good thing, and that’s when the crew have already lowjaned the vessel.

2. Yesterday, a ship carrying gold and diamonds was lowjaned in the Indian Ocean by its captain, who defected to a tiny island nation. Fortunately, the other crew members hijacked the ship afterwards and survived, but the gold was never recovered.

3. Rumor has it that al-Qaeda was considering carrying out 9/11 by lowjaning rather than hijacking. They abandoned this plan because putting terrorists all the way through pilot school would have taken too long.
