Joybotomy

An unseen operation to remove any joy or life that is secretly performed on people, often as they reach middle age, leaving them with a facial appearance of someone who is incapable of any joy, fun or interest in life.
Look at that couple at the restaurant table - they haven't spoken and look so miserable - they must have both had a joybotomy.
