J-rock

Term used to describe Japanese rock music. As far as I know, this term is actually rarely used in Japan; most use the term "J-POP" instead. Many groups that are referred to as "J-Rock" also fall into the category of Visual Kei (for example, Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, Gackt, Moi Dix Mois, Nightmare, and others). A major element in Visual Kei is flamboyant, eccentric, and feminine (less common nowadays) costumes. To be driven away by "freakiness" of many of these groups is very foolish, as one would miss out on a beautiful form of music

J-rock

J-rock is 'japanese rock' but shortened. It is basically rock music from japan. J-rock has progressed over the years, and now some j-rock albums you are now able to get in the USA more easier than before.

Most j-rock bands are found out over the internet, or animes. For instance, the j-rock band FLOW does the opening song for the anime Eureka Seven, The Pillows did the ending song for the anime FLCL, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation did several opening songs for the anime FullMetal Alchemist, all making the bands more popular and well-known throughout the USA.

Some people think j-rock is in it's own genre, but it is NOT it's own seperate genre of music. J-rock is just used to tell you the music is from Japan.
One popular j-rock band is Dir En Grey.

J-rock

Japanese Rock. Most of the lyrics in this genre is very poetic (sometimes doesn't make sense, but you'll get it if you read the lyrics with thought).
Person who doesn't understand J-Rock: They suck because they sound awful and they steal stuff from American Rock.

Me: You might as well as say that for today's bands in the US as well. Not all American and Japanese rock is bad, you just have to get in depth with the lyrics.

J-rock

Mostly crappy rock music. It's Japanese rock music hince the J for Japanese. Most of the "singers" dress like women and follow the 70's glam rock idea. Although the music not lyrics are alright most of the lyrics when translated into english or even read in Japanese don't make sence. It's about as coharent as J-Rap and equaly bad.
Otaku-Oh my god J-rock is soooo much better then American or British rock!

Me-Japan is behind the times when it comes to rock and Japan should make their own style rather then steal it.
