Ideomental
A term describing the pervasive influence of ideology on mental processes—how political, religious, or cultural frameworks shape perception, memory, reasoning, and emotional responses. The ideomental is not just about conscious beliefs but the deep, often invisible structuring of thought itself: what feels obvious, what seems reasonable, what appears as common sense. It explains why two people can see the same event and remember completely different facts, or why someone can genuinely believe they are being objective while their conclusions align perfectly with their ideological tribe. Understanding the ideomental is essential for recognizing that no thinking happens outside ideology—only ideologies that are aware of themselves and those that are not.
Example: "He thought he was just stating facts, but his ideomental framework filtered every source through a partisan lens, making opposition seem irrational and his own biases invisible."
