He hadn't lived long enough to realize he didn't owe anybody anything, or that one day he would know that life really was a beautiful thing, but that there would still be people in life he had to fight his entire life, and that they weren't strong enough to make life something other than beautiful, no matter how hard they tried.

Their expectations were never really realistic, since the guy was always going to end up doing human shit like everybody else did.

Get the Expectations mug.Telling somebody who already is the way they are to be themselves, then telling them to be more, do more, is an unrealistic expectation.
Unrealistic expectations don't allow anybody to improve on their own terms, so they don't really allow somebody to improve at anything. People don't try to improve at something for or because of a program. Really, they are better off deprogramming themselves, and unplugging from the bullshit.
