Engineer Syndrome

A student currently studying engineering who believes he or she is better than everyone else simply because he or she studies engineering. It is especially common with engineers who are not failing all of their classes, but can be seen in any and most engineers.

Person 1: That engineer just totally made me feel inferior about my major.
Person 2: Don't worry, he just has engineer syndrome. You'll at least make it through college and probably get laid too.

Engineer's syndrome 

A tendency for some engineers to believe that they can solve complex problems in unrelated fields (economics, philosophy, etc) by applying typical engineering strategies (mathematical modeling, etc) despite lacking domain knowledge in the field.

"The volatility of financial markets can be minimized by using control theory to model the market as a second-order system."
"That's just your engineer's syndrome talking."
