Danger Rail
Nickname for the continuous, rigid metal bar placed alongside railway tracks to supply electric power using 600 to 750 volts of direct current (DC). The bars are extremely dangerous because they carry high-voltage electricity, look similar to regular tracks, and can cause severe muscle spasms upon contact, hence the name
Railworkers need to make sure the danger rail is de-energized before railworks start. This happens when train services are closed for the night.
