Bubble music

A derisory term used by professional violinists, cellists, etc. to describe the string background parts in pop music, which tend to consist mostly of long held notes. There are so many whole notes that the score looks like it's covered with bubbles.

"I don't need to practice for that studio gig -- it's just bubble music."
