Barbie Canopy
Barbie Canopy (noun) / ˈbɑ rbi ˈkænəpi /
1. A chaotic, highly hazardous overhead matrix of heavy-duty extension cords, flickering multi-colored Christmas lights, frost blankets, moving blankets, and blue plastic tarps. It is hastily constructed by a panicked homeowner over exotic, out-of-zone plants on a freezing Tuesday morning.
2. The synthetic, temporary "roof" required to keep a delicate tropical plant from turning into a puddle of green slime during an advective continental cold snap.
The Litmus Test:
If your backyard canopy is composed of Chlorophyll, you live in the tropics. If your backyard canopy is composed of Home Depot extension cords and shattered holiday bulbs, you live in the Barbie Tropics.
