"Entertainment" media such as movies and books where the protagonist experiences nonstop abuse or misery without fighting back; protagonist character arc is endless suffering where there is either a sad ending (usually death) or protagonist finally finds back in the end in an unrealistic way.

Hollywood loved the misery porn movie Leaving Las Vegas; I hate books where the heroine suffers endless abuse only to finally say she's had enough in the end when it's too little too late.

Salad Misery

The anguish and despondency felt in the mid-afternoon by persons who have only consumed a salad for lunch. Usually occurs at the time a food coma would set in, had you actually eaten something delicious.

My parents hinted that I was looking a little chunky, so I got a salad for lunch. Now the salad misery is just making me want to kill myself.
