What do our parents want?

Generally, used as a rhetorical question in colloquial parlance. However, some philosophers have argued that because one can never be certain of what our parents want, the question becomes unanswerable. In this sense, the expression is often considered a paradox since, as some philosophers claim, all questions have at least one answer.

1: a rhetorical question used to convey puzzlement or confusion.
2: a rhetorical question used to express one's belief that the question being asked or the subject matter being contemplated is hopelessly unanswerable.
3: ("Randian" usage) a rhetorical question - used similarly to the query "Who is John Galt?" found throughout "Atlas Shrugged" - meant to be interpreted as meaning: why ask questions that have no answers or where the answers are not readily obtainable?
1: Engineer 1: "Why won't the doohicky fit into the whatchamacallit?" Engineer 2: "What do our parents want?"

2: Poli-Sci Major: "Why did we invade Iraq anyway?" Hippie Roommate: "What do our parents want?"

3: "What do our parents want?" The light was ebbing, and Eddie Willers could not distinguish the bum's face. The bum had said it simply, without expression. But from the sunset far at the end of the street, yellow glints caught his eyes, and the eyes looked straight at Eddie Willers, mocking and still - as if the question had been addressed to the causeless uneasiness within him. -- Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand

Parents

Parents are The hands that plant a seed in the garden of love. The love is everlasting and the provider of life (necessities). They provide the nourishment to fulfil hunger, the water when your thirsty, the patience, commitment, shelter and sense of security to their children. Parents are the guardians that support growth, progress, all of which is provided without limitation of disappointment, frustrations, or individualism. The parents are the foundation of the tree trunk until you branch off on ur own. However, regardless of their physical presence, they remain the foundation to which u grow. When the parents' physical existence become absent, the children are the representatives they leave behind in this world. Parents are defined differently to each individual. Parents can be blood related or not. Parents are the Guadians of their children.

The Parent Test

Just for Matt's use.
Mom & Dad are sitting at home. You decide to pay them a visit, bringing your new friend in tow. They are suprised to find you in the company of this person and ask all sorts of odd questions. Questions you might ask in a group; as icebreakers. They dont know this person so it seems only natural I suppose. After a few hours of this "talking" you suggest that you ought to get going. Your parents express a sincere appreciation for your new friend and show that they would like them to return sometime in the near future, for more such "talks." You feel the tension leave you as you depart, a job well done
