Stationsfiets

Station Bike (noun) 🚲💨

A rusty, slightly wobbly, yet mysteriously unbreakable bicycle that lives at the train station. Often held together by duct tape, zip ties, and sheer determination. Looks like it was abandoned in 1997 but somehow still rides.

Primary function: Getting you from home to the station and back, while being so unattractive that even the most desperate bike thief won’t bother.

Secondary function: A test of your faith every morning—will the brakes work today? Will the chain stay on? Only the bike gods know.

Synonyms: "Rust Rocket," "Two-Wheeled Gamble," "Urban Relic"
The frontlamp fell of my stationsfiets. But with some ducttape it is as good as new.

Switching stations

To switch stations simply means to go from one language to next during your interaction with another speaker who may also be bi or multilingual. People "switch stations" to add a bit of context on the subject matter or topic they're talking about so that the listener can fully comprehend the speaker. The speaker also does this as a way to relate to their listener(s) and make them feel connected. The phrase/term originally derived from the multitude of radio and TV stations, in South Africa, that are being broadcasted in different tongues/languages for specific listeners/viewers to read. So if you change from one station to the next, you would hear the new speaker on your telly or radio speak in a different tongue than the predecessor from the other station.
Speaker #1: Sawubona bhuti. Igama lami nguSphiwe and what is your name?

Speaker #2: Yebo, sawubona Sphiwe. I'm Trevor.

Speaker #1: Oh, okay. Ngiyajabula ukukwazi Trevor.

Speaker #2: 😅 Yebo. Nice to meet you too, Sphiwe.

Radio-Stationing

The act of recording a long, extended voice message.

To jib about the mundane and everyday aspects of your normal life, maybe comedically, to a singular receiver.
"So you've got totally into voicenotes recently, what's happened?"
"Yeah I'll be honest, its not the old me, but I've been radio-stationing hard"

"Jheez, the other day Sam radio-stationed me like crazy, I got a 2 minute voice note, then a 3 minute voice note, and get this, 30 minutes later, another 1 1/2 minute voice note!...I can't"
